It’s hard to judge this novel that is quite intense for its themes (anorexia and eating disorders) and for the stylistic choices. The novel is emotionally demanding and it is built upon researches by the author, but I think that the final judgment could be given only by who suffered or suffers these diseases: it’s like a mirror showing us these wintergirls, but only them can tell us if this reflection is real.
I found it an intense reading and well-built, Lia point of view emerges also thanks to the corrections in her thoughts and to the phrases she says herself.
The characters are believable and coherent in actions and dialogues; I find the overall message from this book positive and realistic (and feasible).
