Gut: The Inside Story of Our Body’s Most Underrated Organ is not a book about food that want to teach us how to eat in a different way.
The book is about the digestive system, its role and its complexity. The author, a young and expert scientist, explains the digestion phases, the role of the different involved organs and the one of bacteria (where they are, why we need them, how can we treat them well); the author provides also useful suggestions (probiotic and prebiotic, where to find them).
The book is easy to read and the topic is interesting, it contains also illustrations by Jill Enders, the author’s sister, and I think they are well devised and pertinent to the topic (at first I was perplexed).
Gut is a good scientific divulgation book: the arguments are stated clearly, the text is understandable and it focus the reader attention to the body part we usually think less noble.
* L’intestino felice by Giulia Enders ★★☆☆☆
