While the sun sets over Boston, Lily and Ryle met on the roof of a building; she buried her father that day, and her only relevant memories about him are the violent episodes against her mother.
Some months later they meet again, and they are brought together by the mutual attraction they feel. Ryle does not particularly like stable relationships, but he chooses to try one with Lily.
Up to this moment It ends with us is a standard romantic novel: he, her, the attraction and then the love. But this is the exact moment the story changes becoming tragically realistic and dealing with serious issues.
The author in the post face tells she was inspired by relationships between people close to her to tell this story. The novel is much more than a romantic story, and it deals also with mother-daughter relation and friendship: it was unexpectedly nice and engaging.
