In Hitching Rides with Buddha, Will Ferguson brings the reader with him during his hitching trip to follow the Hanami (the cherry blossom front), travelling from the southern Japan towards Hokkaido (the northern part).
The cherry blossom is only an expedient (the author is not so obsessed with flowers) to present Japan in a different way, a less touristic one. The hitching is not only a way to travel, but it’s a way to know new people and new way of thinking – and to experience more or less frightening driving styles.
Hitching Rides with Buddha provides the reader a different sight of Japan and its inhabitants, and the author style is extremely enjoyable and fun.
