[ARC] There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly by Rashin

I found out that There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly is a children song that is drawn by different illustrators – this is in fact one of the multiple existing versions.

The old lady swallows a fly, and then a spider to catch it and so on, like a black hole.

The rhyme is very nice and I think the images are colorful and fun: the madness of the old lady is opposed to the horror of the animals that show their disagreement in being swallowed by some comic’s balloons.

The 100 monkeys are hungry and they have to look for some food in this colorful illustrated book.
In each page there are also simple questions (to find a particular monkey that is doing something or some elements in the background) that allow children to interact with the book itself.
The small book is very nice and proposes a way to keep the young reader attention high.

[Intervista] Becca Price

Becca Price is the author of two fairy tales collections: “Fairies and fireflies” and “Dragon and Dreams” I talked about here and here.

Both the collections contains delightful tales and are very well-finished.

Me and other three blogger who read both the books  asked the author for an interview, and she agreed to answer our questions.
We asked about different topics (selfpublish, illustrations, mythological elements, evolution of the fairy tale and message it conveys), the output is dense but very rich in content.

Here follows the interview – before the italian translated version and then the english original one – that is published also in the blogs by Chagall, Oedipa Drake and Tintaglia.

[ARC] Monsters! by Gustavo Duarte

This graphic novel contains 3 stories by Gustavo Duarte:

  • Co!
  • Birds
  • Monsters!

Every one of them is characterized by the lack of dialogues, the whole communication is by means of the images that, illustration after illustrations show the plot.

The images are in light colors but with precise and well-defined borders, I liked a lot this illustration style, clear and rich in details.

The stories are very nice and fun, this is a book that must be read (or looked at).

“The grudge keeper” is a nice illustrated story; in the city everyone who feel undergoing an injustice may complain to the grudge keeper (that stores the grudges in forms of scrolls), thanks to a thunderstorm the citizens will understand how to deal their issues.
