Roen is an out of shape it programmer, uncool enough to try to meet girls – failing – in some discos in Chicago.
One night in his body enters Tao, an incorporeal alien who needs a host, otherwise he is bound to die for being unfitted to earth climate.

Roen will then understand how much human history is deeply linked to the alien race Quasing Tao belongs to: the most important and key figures in historical events had inside an alien to guide and help them. Quasing are divided in two factions with respect to their tolerance to human race; Roen becomes a secret agent for the Prophus faction (the good ones), helped by Tao.

The novel is engaging and a page turner, each chapter is introduced by a memory of Tao recalling human history through his eyes and his hosts, and Tao and Roen have different funny and serious dialogues (they happen as a sort of mental communication).
The characters are well described, especially Roen who changes greatly during the novel both in his way of acting and in his reflections about moral concerning Quasing actions.

Roen è un programmatore fuori forma, abbastanza sfigato che punta a trovare compagnia – fallendo miseramente – nelle discoteche di Chicago.
Una notte il destino farà sì che nel suo corpo entri Tao, alieno incorporeo che ha la necessità di avere un ospite, pena la morte a causa delle condizioni rigide del clima terrestre.

Roen scoprirà quindi che la storia umana è stata profondamente segnata dalla razza aliena Quasing di cui Tao fa parte: gran parte delle personalità chiave di avvenimenti storici avevano al loro interno uno degli alieni come guida.

I Quasing sono divisi in due fazioni opposte rispetto al modo di trattare gli esseri umani. Roen diventerà quindi un agente per la fazione Prophus (i buoni), supportato dalla presenza di Tao.

Il romanzo è molto scorrevole ed avvicente, ogni capitolo è introdotto da un ricordo di Tao dei suoi precedenti ospiti notevoli e la presenza dell’alieno è visibile in divertenti scambi con il protagonista (in pratica avvengono in una sorta di comunicazione mentale).
La caratterizzazione dei personaggi è ben realizzata, in particolare si apprezza il cambiamento di atteggiamento di Roen e le sue riflessioni rispetto all’etica e morale connesse alle azioni Quasing.
